Mark Humphrey AMNS

Mark originally studied Business Law and pursued a successful career in PR and Marketing with some of Europe’s leading businesses. Whilst at Orange, he personally developed many artistic initiatives including the Orange Prize for Fiction.

Although predominantly self-taught, Mark learnt his initial stone carving skills on the island of Gozo from sculptor, Joseph Xuereb and then studied sculpting techniques at the University of Hertfordshire. Marks’ sculptures can generally be described as figurative to abstract and are hand-carved in a wide range of Limestones, Alabaster, Marble and Polyphant stone. He normally works in cut stone blocks ranging from 20 Kgs up to several tonnes. He also produces limited edition sculptures from the originals in Foundry Bronze, Aluminium, and composite metal and stone resins.

Mark Humphrey

“I have always loved the look and feel of stone. Some of the stone I carve is nearly 200 million years old, so I tend to treat it with a great deal of respect! My inspiration to carve is fuelled by an internal drive to experiment based on natural forms, relationships and facets of human emotions”.
