Walkern Village
Walkern is a pretty Hertfordshire village just over two miles from Stevenage. Legend has it that its site by the River Beane was chosen by the Devil, who nightly moved building materials intended for a church from nearby Boxbury. Indeed, his cries of 'walk on, walk on!' are reputed to be the basis of the village's name. Walkern was also the home of the last person in England to be convicted of witchcraft, way back in 1711, although Jane Wenham did receive a Queen's Pardon and go on to live to a ripe old age.

St Mary's Church, Walkern
The Parish Church of St Mary The Virgin is reckoned to be the oldest church in Hertfordshire with a Saxon wall dating back to circa 950 to 1000 A.D.

Swalk Craft is a family owned and run business which is also located in Weston. Their premises are what was the mill and barns of Town Farm, in the centre of the village, which have been converted into one large unit. There is quite a history attached to the buildings and they have housed many businesses in their lifetime including a removals firm, beauty therapist and a jewellery design studio!
